Highview undertook a full strip of all the existing roof coverings, and the installation of a Bauder total roofing system, with tapered insulation scheme, to 11 apartment blocks in West London for City West Homes.
Waste removal on these sites was challenging due to restricted access causing logistics to be difficult to coordinate. As we were unable to place skips within close-proximity to the properties, we had to carefully manually transfer all waste in sack barrows on foot, ensuring that public and operative safety was maintained at all times.
Weather was unseasonably difficult throughout the programme, with ‘beast from the east’ snowfall, followed by hottest summer on UK record. We were unable to felt when it became too hot due to marks on the installation and also operative welfare considerations. The tenants remaining in occupation throughout works also meant that we had restricted working times and noise disruption times.
To combat this we increased our labour allocations during the periods when we were able to work. This contract was PAS 30 accredited so we were able to retrieve funding for it and the thermal efficiency improvements led to a reduction in the buildings’ environmental impacts, as well as a saving in residents’ costs.
